A beautiful Saturday morning!!

Well I’m sitting outside an office of yet another campground updating the blog while I wait for Joanne! Here’s what has happened in the last day or day…

Well we meet up with Lynn and Randy and helped Lynn celebrate her birthday.  Had a couple beers and just chilled after a long hard day on the road! It wouldnt have been so long had the ferry not had a 2 hour wait which took us to drive on the interstate. Mike thought there was a bridge up ahead, but it was a line he drew on our map to make sure we went a certain way. Big oops, DONT WRITE ON MAPS WITH BLACK PEN!! ha ha. Anyways made it to Lynn and Randys camp. Slept in their trailer and up the next morning for a ride to Deception Pass. It was too foggy to see much, but it was a beautiful road. On to La Connor for lunch and birthday shopping for Lynn and Joanne. We left them around 3:00 for our long journey home. We stopped to camp at Winthrop. What a neat old west town. After supper at a brew house on the shores of the river we settled into our tent for the night.

Today we have a long ride ahead, about 8-9 hours. Having a coffee in the bright sun shine and wishing we still had another week before coming home. It has been an awesome holiday.IMG_1580 IMG_1585 IMG_1593 IMG_1600 IMG_1611 IMG_1614 IMG_1616 IMG_1618 IMG_1619

It’s been awhile!

Well it's been 3 days and too busy to update the blog! We started off Tuesday heading east across the Island to Duncan only to turn around and head west again throught a extremly windy road to the west coast of the Island to Port Renfrew.  A very quiet road through the mountains, lots of places to stop and enjoy the beauty (Mike-"Have a beer!")From Port Renfrew to Pedder Bay the rode became extremely windy with hairpin turns thru beautiful cedar redwoods along the ocean. We camped on the harbour at Pedder Bay RV resort. Cheap (only $61.00 for a tent site), beautiful though. Randy and Lynn met up with us as they were boat shopping in Victoria. After a nice supper we sat and had beers.
Up early the next day, Lynn and Randy had to leave fot the ferrry  to meet with Dave and Sylvie who are passing through to California. We rode on by ourselves to the Butchart Gardens on on to the Victoria harbour. Mike especially liked all the flowers!! Llunch and drinks on the waters edge before taking the Blackball Ferry to Port Angeles. After leaving Port Angeles, we rode up to Hurricane Ridge National Park. We were as high as the mountain peaks overlooking the valleys below. Breath taking. It was getting late so decided to camp near by at the Dungeness State Park, right on the coast in the large cedar trees.
This morning we slept in a little, finally a quiet campground, and will ride to Anacortes to see Lynn and Randy again. Happy Birthday to Lynn today, Im sure we will do it up right later.

Monday Morning…

Well were up early because of crows and because were heading out whale watching this morning for 3-4 hours.  Best of all it’s in a little Zodiac 12 persons boat.  We should get up close and personal with the grey whales.  Oh, and after that were heading on a float plane to the island from above.  Which should be a thrill in it’s self!  Last night we had supper in a seafood restaurant in Tofino. The crab was oh so delicious!! Then it was a 30 minute ride in the dark back to Ucluelet where were camped again tonight. Oh so much fun!!

Well the day was more than we expected. After a ride in the fog to Tofino in 14 degree weather, we suited up in floatation gear and headed out to sea for some adventure. First we spotted a grey whale weighing 25 ton. Diving and coming up beside our boat spouting and diving down again to feed off the bottom. It eats 18 hours a day and when it comes up it has over a ton of sand to sift through for it food. It was amazing! Next we went into a little cove to see star fish lining the rocks and then on to another island to watch sea otters sun tanning and swimming around the boat. We then carried on to another island to see Stellar Sea Lions. They were huge and sunning on the rocks. Unbelievable to be 30 feet from them. On our way back to dock a bald eagle sat 30 ft above us in a tree eating. The trip was spectacular. Next after a quick snack we went down to Tofino Air for a 30 min. float plane ride over the area. The sun came out and the views were amazing. Best part of our trip so far. Flying 500 ft above the ocean and just over the tree line made for some awesome scenery. Salmon hatcheries, oyster beds, and glacier peaks were only a few of the views.Lunch consisted of fresh halibut and fries and then on for a walk thru the rain forest to the beach. Mike napped on the beach while I searched for shells and walked in the water. We rode on to Long Beach and watched surfers and the waves before riding back to our camp in Ucluelet. Enjoying a few beers and relaxation before another seafood supper. There will be a campfire later. The perfect day!!! On to Victoria tomorrow to meet up with Lynn and Randy for a few days.

Sunday August 1, 2010

Well, Friday afternoon after shopping for our holiday, I pulled out our itinerary and realized that we were suppose to leave on Thursday afternoon, thus making all our reservations a day late. Mike says we cant make it to Hope, BC by night so I started cancelling and trying to make new reservations, but it being August Long Weekend, that was difficult. Our beautiful campgrounds I reserved in May went by the wayside and we stayed where ever we could find. The 1st night we made it to Golden and we stayed right next to the trans-Canada Highway. The scenery was excellent as always through the mountains, but the cherry sized hail and rain near Cochrane was a little much. The next morning we rode on thru 35 degree heat on to Kamloops and thru the Fraser Canyon. Stopping at Hells Gate for an air tram ride and ice cream, then on to Hope BC. Our campground in Hope was nice, right on the Fraser River. This morning we left early and caught the Horseshoe Bay Ferry to Nanaimo. Again, I wasted money, cancelled the ferry and rebooked for the right day and then left from a different terminal and realized that motorcycles get priority and dont need reservations. What’s $32.50!!!! Just another learning experience. We had a nice smooth ride on the ferry, good thing as there are no tie downs for our bike. After shopping in Nanaimo for a cord so we could do the blog, we rode on to Port Alberni and on to Ucluelet to our ocean front campsite. The weather has been great, and we are so impressed that we may purchase some property here. There are homes for sale everywhere. This would be a great get away place and for future retirement.
